Severe weather threat returns to Des Moines later today

Weather in Iowa: Danger of severe weather again on Thursday afternoon

OVER. WOW, WE'RE EXPECTING SOME STORMS TODAY. WE WANT TO GO DIRECTLY TO ANNE FOR THE LATEST ON WHEN WE SHOULD EXPECT THOSE. ALL THAT'S HAPPENING FOR US RIGHT NOW. JODI IS BELOW THE SEVERE STORM LIMITS. LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND INTO THE EARLY EVENING HOURS WE COULD SEE SOME OF THESE STORMS UPGRADE FROM STRONG TO SEVERE LATER TODAY. BUT WE ONLY HAVE A LITTLE ACTIVITY HERE ON THE RADAR FOR THE MIDDAY HOUR. SOME STORMS HEAD TOWARDS WATERLOO AND CEDAR RAPIDS. THEN WE HAVE SOME RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS AGAIN IN THE CENTRAL PARTS OF MARSHALL COUNTY, NORTH OF HIGHWAY 30. WE HAVE A CELL HERE EAST OF IOWA FALLS AND HUBBARD. SO WE HAVE SOME SPOTS OF SPOTS OF RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS. SPOTS OF THUNDERSTORMS HERE AS WE LOOK FORWARD TO THE NEXT HOUR OR SO. WE HAVE SOME HEAVY RAIN SPOTS, BUT IN DALLAS COUNTY. WAUKEE, IT'S RAINING RIGHT NOW. WEST DES MOINES IS ALSO EXPECTING THAT RAIN AND THAT STORM, MOVING NORTH AND EAST AGAIN. So we'll be traversing downtown Des Moine for the next half hour or so. We have another rain cell in Clark County moving over Osceola right now. And that will continue along the highway or right along I-35 here, closer to New Virginia, over the next 20 to 30 minutes. So there are a few patches of rain out there. Not all of them got caught in the rain this morning. We'll see it again, isolated to scattered chances of rain into the late afternoon and evening. There's still some sunshine. That's the case in Algona. OTHERWISE CLOUDY SKIES OVER LAMONI, MARSHALLTOWN AND WEST DES MOINES. TEMPERATURE ESTIMATES WE'RE IN THE MID 80S BUT IN PLACES WHERE IT HAS RAINED HERE IN THE LAST HOUR IT'S A LITTLE COOLER. 72 IN IOWA FALLS. WE'RE AT 84 IN ATLANTIC AND 74 IN AMES. AGAIN. WE ARE SUBJECT TO THAT SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER. THE YELLOW COLOR YOU SEE HERE WAS EXPOSED FURTHER SOUTH THIS MORNING BY THE STORM FORECAST CENTER. SO AGAIN WE COULD SEE SOME OF THESE STORMS GETTING STRONG TO MAJOR LATER TODAY. OUR BIGGEST HAZARDS IF THESE GET SEVERE WOULD BE DAMAGING WINDS AND LARGE HAIL. FOR MOST OF US HERE THERE IS A CHANCE OF MAYBE A FEW INDIVIDUAL TORNADOES FURTHER INTO NORTHERN IOWA AND BACK INTO SOUTHERN PARTS OF MINNESOTA. OTHERWISE WE HAVE THE ACTIVITY RIGHT NOW. THAT'S ON THE RADAR. THEN WE'LL HAVE A BREAK IN THE RAIN AND THE STORMS, A LITTLE RETREAT AS WE MOVE THROUGH THE EVENING HOURS. TONIGHT. I THINK MORE STORMS WILL COME UP, PROBABLY AFTER SUNSET FOR US HERE IN CENTRAL IOWA. WE COULD SEE EARLY STORMS ACROSS NORTH AND NORTH CENTRAL IOWA. BUT ONCE THE SUN GOES DOWN THEY'LL LOSE SOME OF THEIR INTENSITY. ANY STORMS THAT DEVELOP WILL MOVE EAST BY MIDNIGHT. SO IT'S GOING TO BE A FAST-MOVING SYSTEM COMING THROUGH HERE WITH THIS COLD FRONT. AND THEN WE'LL START THE DAY DRY ON FRIDAY. TOMORROW WE'LL HAVE A BRIGHTER START AGAIN, BUT IT'LL STILL BE WARM. TEMPERATURES WILL BE ABOVE AVERAGE AGAIN, UP TO NEARLY 90 ON FRIDAY. IT'LL BE A LITTLE RAIN TODAY. WE'LL TAKE A BREAK ON FRIDAY, AND THEN MORE RAIN COMES OVER THE WEEKEND, ESPECIALLY IN THE SECOND HALF OF YOUR SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY. I THINK WE'LL SEE MORE RAIN, MORE WIDESPREAD RAIN ACROSS THE STATE. THESE RAINFALL AMOUNTS ARE ONLY IN EFFECT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT, AND THEY'RE ANYWHERE FROM A THIRD OF AN INCH TO MAYBE A HALF OF AN INCH, A HALF OF AN INCH FOR A LOT OF FOLKS ACROSS THE STATE. SO THERE'S SOME RAIN COMING, IF IT DOESN'T GET ANY TONIGHT, I THINK WE'LL DEFINITELY SEE SOME THIS WEEKEND. FOR THE NEXT 12 HOURS, TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN IN THE 25S LATER TODAY. STORM CHANCES FOR DES MOINES ARE INCREASING LATER TONIGHT. IT'S WARM TODAY. SOME SUNSHINE AND SOME CLOUDS TONIGHT. 13-16 DEGREES. AND TOMORROW THE RAIN IS FINISHED FOR A DAY. AGAIN AT 90. CHANCE OF RAIN AGAIN. SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING IT WILL RISE AGAIN, PROBABLY AGAIN AS WE HEAD TOWARDS SUNDAY. FIRST DAY OF FALL COMES I
