Three suspects arrested, one wanted in connection with the killing of a 65-year-old man by contract killers

IBERVILLE PARISH, Louisiana (WAFB) – Several people are facing charges for allegedly conspiring to murder a 65-year-old man in Iberville Parish.

According to the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office, 65-year-old Herman Harris was found dead of a single gunshot wound in his home on Highway 76 in Maringouin on August 27.

“Through our investigation, we discovered that this was a possible contract killing that took place in Maringouin, Louisiana. That's not the norm, but that's what the investigation revealed,” said Sheriff Brett Stassi.

Sheriff Stassi said three people were arrested and officers have a warrant for a fourth suspect.

  • Rilonda Brooks, 44, and David Brooks Jr., 40, both of Maringouin, were arrested on charges of premeditated murder, incitement to murder, criminal conspiracy and obstruction of justice.
  • Johnnie Hicks, 25, of Vicksburg, Mississippi, was arrested for first-degree murder, solicitation to commit murder, criminal conspiracy, aggravated burglary, obstruction of justice and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
  • Javadda Lewis, 32, of Edwards, Mississippi, is wanted for first-degree murder, solicitation to commit murder, criminal conspiracy, aggravated burglary and obstruction of justice.

“These four individuals planned and carried out the murder of Mr. Harris in Maringouin. These individuals will be brought to justice and turned over to our District Attorney Tony Clayton, who will handle this matter in the courts and the system,” said Sheriff Stassi.

Clayton said Brooks received a large sum of money from a lawsuit and Harris, who worked for her, was injured on the job. He said Harris asked for help and that's where the punch came in.

The sheriff said Hicks' DNA was found on a pillow that was presented as evidence at the crime scene.

Hicks was recently released from prison and, according to the sheriff, has an extensive criminal history.

The district attorney said he was urging the judge not to grant bail.

Lewis, who is still wanted, is considered armed and dangerous, Clayton said.

Anyone with information on Lewis' whereabouts should contact the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office at 225-687-3553.
