Father takes daughter hostage; arrested after standoff with police

RAYVILLE, Louisiana (KNOE) – A man is in custody after taking his four-year-old daughter hostage.

On September 19, at approximately 9:00 a.m., the Richland Parish Sheriff's Office was notified by the child's grandmother that the girl's father – who did not have custody of the girl – had kidnapped her.

RPSO and Rayville Police immediately responded to the call. When they arrived, they found the father, 35-year-old Cedrick Lawson Jr., holding the little girl at knifepoint in a parked car.

RPSO officers began negotiating with Lawson Jr. and he handed the knife over to officers.

Lawson Jr. was arrested and the child was examined before being released to his family members.

Lawson Jr. was charged with aggravated kidnapping, four counts of aggravated assault and six counts of resisting police.

No bail has been set yet.
