Preliminary crash report released on fatal plane crash in Henry County

The accident occurred on September 10 shortly before 2 p.m. near a private airstrip near the Roberts Pipeline at the intersection of US 36 and North County Road 200 West.

SULPHUR SPRINGS, Indiana – A preliminary NTSB report on a fatal plane crash Sept. 10 in Henry County has been released.

The crash occurred shortly before 2 p.m. on a private airstrip near the intersection of US 36 and North County Road 200 West. The small plane crashed upside down into a bean field.

The pilot, 82-year-old David Michael Province of Middletown, Indiana, died.

According to an Indiana State Police spokesman, the plane was flying west along the runway and crashed for unknown reasons shortly after takeoff.

According to the preliminary NTSB report:

Post-accident examination of the aircraft revealed that the flight controls from the cockpit controls to the flight control surfaces were continuously functioning. The flaps were in the retracted position. The canopy was locked and secured. The engine was tested for operability at various throttle settings with no abnormalities found.

Henry County is located about 50 miles northeast of downtown Indianapolis.

This is the second fatal plane crash in four days in central Indiana. Four Iowa men, ages 19 to 68, were killed in a plane crash in Anderson on Friday, September 6.
