VSP investigates plane crash in Northern Virginia

FAUQUIER COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) – Virginia State Police responded to a report of a plane crash in Fauquier County Thursday afternoon at 3:27 p.m.

The accident occurred in the 14500 block of Spring Mill Road, according to a VSP report, and the preliminary investigation revealed that a single-engine Cessna was attempting to make an emergency landing in a field when it collided with several trees.

The plane's pilot is an unnamed 79-year-old man from Fredericksburg who suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was flown to Fairfax Inova Hospital. VSP said the pilot was the only occupant and no one on the ground was injured in the crash.

VSP said the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been notified of the crash, which is still under investigation.
