Breece Hall: BetMGM’s biggest liability for OPOY

New York Jets running back Breece Hall was scheduled to face reigning Offensive Player of the Year Christian McCaffrey on Monday Night Football in San Francisco earlier this week, but with McCaffrey out on short notice in Week 1, all eyes were solely on Hall.

The Jets struggled in their 32-19 loss to the 49ers, and Hall's stats were less than impressive to the average viewer: He managed just 54 yards on 16 carries. He did, however, reach the end zone on a 3-yard run for the game's first touchdown, but also lost a fumble that led to a field goal for the Niners.

His odds of winning Offensive Player of the Year have plummeted, falling from +1200 before Week 1 to +1500 after the loss. However, looking closer, Hall's advanced stats paint a completely different picture, which is why he's currently BetMGM's biggest risk to win the award, with 11% of players betting on him.

New York pulled quarterback Aaron Rodgers from the game late in the game when it became clear that a comeback was out of the question, but Hall put in an exceptional performance before then, underscoring his crucial role in the Jets' offense.

According to Scott Barrett of Fantasy Points, Hall played 30 of 31 snaps (97%), took all 12 backfield runs (100%), and received all five backfield passes (100%) when Rodgers was on the field. Hall also accounted for five of the team's 17 total passes, accounting for 29% of the Jets' passing game participation.

That usage level was the fifth-highest for any running back in a single week since the start of the 2021 season, suggesting Hall will be positioned as a focal point in both the running and passing attack. His Week 2 run prop reflects that as well: He was at 75.5 yards on the road against a Titans team that held the Bears to just 84 yards on the ground.

Overall, Hall is tied with Bengals receiver Ja'Marr Chase and Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb for the fourth-lowest odds to win OPOY at +1500 at BetMGM. The only players ahead of him are Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill (+500), Eagles running back Saquon Barkley (+950) and Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson (+1200). The only player with a higher ticket percentage than Hall (8.9%) is Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown at 10.1%.
