Former New England Patriots quarterback named as Dolphins option

The New England Patriots suffered a major injury blow at the hands of their AFC East division rival, the Miami Dolphins, in Week 2. Tua Tagovailoa suffered another serious concussion.

Due to the concussion, Tagovailoa was placed on the injured list and will be out for some time.

Now it sounds like a former Patriots quarterback could be an option to replace Tagovailoa until he can return to the field.

Former New England star Devin McCourty believes Mac Jones could be a viable option to fill the void left by Tagovailoa's injury.

“Maybe Miami calls him and he gets traded to Miami – Miami, San Francisco, a lot of teams that were thrown out there as places he potentially could have gone. I know Mac would love to do the draft (in 2021) again.”

Jones and the Patriots parted ways last season after a rollercoaster ride in New England. He showed flashes of great potential, but the consistency was simply lacking.

For the Dolphins, Jones would be a much better option than Skylar Thompson. He could help keep the team afloat and get some wins until Tagovailoa can return.

Also, going forward, after Tagovailoa returns, it would make sense to have a better replacement. He's had a lot of trouble staying on the field. Jones would land in a great position for himself, too.

At 26 years old, Jones still has a lot of potential for the future. He is looking for an opportunity where he can prove he can still be an NFL starter. That would be in Miami.

Other than that, this is just a suggestion, not a report. Jones would make a lot of sense for the Dolphins.

Although it didn't work out with New England, it would be nice if the young quarterback got another chance.
