Mercy Flight Central helicopter involved in crash at Canandaigua Airport

The Ontario County Sheriff's Office says it is investigating a serious incident involving a Mercy Flight helicopter that occurred late Thursday at Canandaigua Airport.

According to a press release, emergency crews were called to the scene of an accident on Brickyard Road at around 8:07 p.m. because a helicopter had crashed.

Upon arrival, investigators determined that the helicopter was returning from a mission when it malfunctioned. Authorities described the incident as a hard landing, but the aircraft sustained significant damage.

At the time of the crash there were three people on board, all of whom were able to exit the aircraft safely.

The investigation is still active and the FAA has been notified.
