Storm vs. Mercury – Predictions, Tips and Odds – 9-19

With both teams preparing for the postseason and Jewell Loyd potentially sitting out this game, our WNBA expert expects Skylar Diggins-Smith to do the bulk of the scoring for Seattle.

The Seattle Storm end the regular season away against the Phoenix Mercury. Both teams have secured their respective playoff spots and it's all about pride.

Skylar Diggins-Smith is on fire on offense, and with Jewell Loyd injured, my predictions for Storm vs. Mercury on September 19th are for Diggins-Smith to once again score highly.

Read on to find out the WNBA picks and decide why you should bet the Over on Diggins-Smith's point percentage in the final game of the regular season.

Predictions for Storm vs. Mercury

My best bet
Skylar Diggins-Smith Over 15.5 points (-115 at bet365)

My analysis

Skylar Diggins-Smith's scoring line started at 16.5 points with the over set at -105. I would have had no qualms about setting it that way, but the line has dropped to 15.5 points, and I'm going with it because Seattle's leading scorer, Jewell Loyd, is considered questionable after missing two straight games.

Diggins-Smith has hit the over in 21 of 39 games this season, averaging 15.2 points. She's been a dominant scorer of late, which is why this bet is so attractive. In her last 14 games, Diggins-Smith has averaged 18.8 points and hit the over 11 times, including in each of her last four games.

This season, Diggins-Smith has averaged 17.4 points on the road and 13 at home. In her last eight games away from Seattle, she's scored a whopping 20.4 points. Those home-away splits are tantalizing as the Storm head to the desert. I find Diggins-Smith even more intriguing facing a Phoenix Mercury team that's allowed the fourth-most points to opponents this season.

To make that prop even more compelling, Phoenix has allowed the most three-pointers this season. Diggins-Smith's efficiency from beyond the three-point line has dropped over the past two seasons, but she can still get hot in the right matchup. She has sunk at least three three-pointers in three of her last six games, including a matchup with the Mercury on Sept. 7.

The odds have gotten lower, but I'm quick to put this line in at a ridiculous 15.5 points.

Skylar Diggins-Smith Over 15.5 points

Nneka Ogwumike Over 6.5 rebounds

Below 163.5

Nneka Ogwumike has grabbed at least seven rebounds in 20 of 36 games this season, which is 55.6% of her appearances. Her rebounding prop is an excellent complement to our three-point parlay tonight. She's averaged 7.6 rebounds this season and has hit the over with that prop in both of her meetings with the Mercury in 2024. Phoenix has allowed the most rebounds to opponents this season, and this matchup presents Ogwumike with a great opportunity to clean the glass with authority.

Neither team has been particularly strong offensively this season, with Seattle ranking fifth in points and Phoenix ranking seventh. Seattle has beaten Under in three of their last four away games and Phoenix has beaten Under in two of their last five home games. The head-to-head has beaten Under in each of their last four games and with neither team having significant scoring opportunities, I expect this game to be beaten Under, especially given the high score.
