Federal authorities classify Stearns County as an area with high drug trafficking intensity

Stearns County announced Thursday that it has been designated a high-intensity drug trafficking area by the Office of National Drug Control Policy.

According to a statement from the county, the county had previously applied for the award but was unsuccessful. With this year's success, Stearns County joins four other counties selected nationwide.

“Fortunately, this classification and program will open doors for us to better investigate and partner with other agencies to combat the drug problem and hold accountable those who poison our communities with controlled substances,” said Stearns County Sheriff Steve Soyka.
