Pedestrian dies after collision with car in Orangevale

A man riding an electric bike died when he was struck by a car in Orangevale Thursday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol said. Emergency crews responded to Elm and Beach avenues on reports of a crash involving a bicyclist just before 4:30 p.m., the CHP said. Officers said the man was riding the electric bike southbound on Beach Avenue approaching Elm Avenue while a pickup truck was eastbound on Elm Avenue toward the same intersection. The truck and bicyclist collided at the intersection. An intersection with four stop signs can be seen in video from LiveCopter 3. Officials did not say if either party disregarded a stop sign. Emergency crews responded to reports of a crash involving a bicyclist just before 4:30 p.m. on Elm and Beach avenues, CHP said.

Officers said the man was riding the electric bike southbound on Beach Avenue, approaching Elm Avenue, while a pickup truck was heading eastbound on Elm Avenue toward the same intersection. The truck and the cyclist collided at the intersection.

Video from LiveCopter 3 shows a four-lane stop sign intersection at the intersection. Officials did not say whether either party disregarded a stop sign.

CHP said the driver of the pickup truck was uninjured.
