Suburban resident charged with smuggling drug-laced paper in shoes into Cook County jail

A suburban woman is behind bars for allegedly trying to smuggle drug-laced pieces of paper into the Cook County Jail.

Pandora Sinon was arrested Wednesday in Justice, Illinois, on charges of attempting to introduce a controlled substance into a correctional facility.

The charges stem from an incident on Aug. 18, when Sinon dropped off a pair of white running shoes for someone at the Mental Health Transition Center and then disappeared, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office.

Officers examined the shoes and found three folded pieces of paper inside that appeared to be soaked with a suspected narcotic. The papers were sent to the Illinois State Police lab for further testing, where they tested positive for buprenorphine, a synthetic opioid.

According to officials, Sinon is the 42nd person to be charged with smuggling drug-laced paper into prison this year.

“The Sheriff's Office will aggressively pursue charges against anyone attempting to bring these dangerous substances into the jail,” the sheriff's office said in a statement.
