Deadly shooting in Lower East Side: 16-year-old boy arrested and charged after 57-year-old woman shot in face during robbery

LOWER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) – Police have arrested a teenager wanted in connection with the shooting death of a woman who was killed outside her Lower East Side apartment last week in front of her family.

The NYPD announced Thursday that a 16-year-old boy was arrested and charged with murder, illegal possession of a firearm and burglary.

The shooting occurred on Market Street shortly after 11 p.m. on September 9.

According to police, two suspects chased a man into an apartment building, took the elevator to the eighth floor and attempted to rob him.

The robbery was foiled by the man's wife, Ying Zhu Liu, 57, who heard the commotion in the hallway. Liu apparently came out of the apartment into the hallway with the couple's son and was shot in the face.

According to sources, the suspects managed to enter the building from the eighth floor and take the man's phone and $100.
