Bumrah picks four for India to bowl.

Chennai, Sep 20: Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah took 4-50 as a relentless Indian bowling side bowled out Bangladesh for 149 runs in their first innings to take a 227-run lead on the second day of the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday.

As is usually the case, Bumrah was the standout bowler for India and was in a league of his own. Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep and Ravindra Jadeja complemented him by keeping up the pressure and claiming two scalps each as Bangladesh crumbled in 47.1 overs in the face of a baptism of fire from an exceptional Indian bowling attack.

With India's innings ending at 376, Bumrah struck in the opening over when he changed his angle to come around the wicket and received a ball that came back in play and went past Shadman Islam to hit the top of the off-stump. With Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj bowling attacking lengths, there was no time for the Bangladesh batters to breathe.

In the last over before lunch, Akash hit a nip-backer outside off the middle stump of Zakir Hasan. Off the next ball, he hit Mominul Haque with a nip-backer that went past the batsman's defence and hit the off-stump.

After lunch, Siraj managed to hold a ball that bounced off the outside edge of Najmul Hossain Shanto's bat straight to third slip. In the next over, Bumrah managed to move the ball late and beat Mushfiqur Rahim's poke well to second slip. Despite relentless lines and lengths from the bowlers, Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan ensured that things went in Bangladesh's favour.

The duo delivered spectacular drives against Bumrah, Siraj and Akash Deep before Shakib took advantage of loose balls from Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja to score more boundaries.

The 51-run stand for the sixth wicket ended when Das attempted to clear an outside off-stump ball from Jadeja, but the ball top-edged to substitute fielder Dhruv Jurel at deep backward square leg and fell for 22.

In Jadeja's next over, Shakib attempted a reverse sweep but the ball bounced off his boot and Rishabh Pant ran forward to catch it comfortably. Hasan Mahmud and Mehidy Hasan Miraz stayed on and hit three boundaries before Bumrah got the former to poke at an outside off delivery and the thick outside edge was caught off second slip while hitting the tee.

The final session began with Mehidy and Taskin scoring a boundary each against Bumrah before the top fast bowler landed a perfect yorker that wobbled the latter's middle and leg stumps. Mehidy and Nahid Rana scored three boundaries between them before the latter hit Siraj on his stumps, ending Bangladesh's first innings in just 1.5 sessions.

Brief results: India 376 in 91.2 overs (Ravichandran Ashwin 113, Ravindra Jadeja 86; Hasan Mahmud 5-83, Taskin Ahmed 3-55) leads Bangladesh 149 in 47.1 overs (Shakib Al Hasan 32; Jasprit Bumrah 4-50; Ravindra Jadeja 2-19) by 227 runs.
