BUCKHANNON – An Upshur County man was arrested after allegedly setting fire to the porch of his home during a domestic dispute.

Randel McVay, 39, of Buckhannon was charged with first-degree arson. He is being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on $15,000 bail.

According to the criminal complaint, officers from the Buckhannon Division of the West Virginia State Police assisted the Buckhannon Fire Department with a house fire on Farnsworth Avenue on Tuesday.

Officers said McVay and another resident of the home argued over who set the fire, the complaint states. A witness said the two got into a verbal argument, after which the witness and the woman left the home on foot. McVay then allegedly ran after them. “She screamed that she had set the house on fire.”

When speaking to officers, McVay gave different explanations about how the fire started. At one point she said someone else started it, and at another she said the woman started the fire, the complaint states.
