Counterfeit silver dollars circulating in La Paz store, Plymouth man arrested

Marshall County Police have arrested a suspect who allegedly made a purchase in LaPaz using counterfeit money.

On August 1, the Marshall County Sheriff's Department received information that an unknown male suspect had paid for a business in LaPaz with $1 silver coins. The coins were later determined to be counterfeit.

Officer Rob Hafke used sophisticated forensic techniques to identify the suspect allegedly involved. A case report was forwarded to the Marshall County District Attorney's Office for review.

An arrest warrant was issued for Joseph B. Daigle, 62, of Plymouth. On Tuesday, Officer Hafke went to the suspect's address and arrested him. Daigle was transported to the Marshall County Jail and arrested for counterfeiting a Level 6 felony. He was held on $3,000 bail.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only a reasonable suspicion to believe that a crime has been committed. Defendants are presumed innocent throughout the trial and are entitled to legal representation and to a jury trial, where the State is required to present evidence beyond a reasonable doubt before a verdict of guilt can be entered.
