13-year-old arrested for threatening Dover school

The arrested 13-year-old is not a student at Dover Middle School.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested on Wednesday after making threats against Dover Middle School In Capital School District.

The child, whose name has not been released, lives in Seaford and is not a student at that school.

The investigation began on Tuesday at 2:23 p.m., when the Dover Police Department received three emergency calls from the same number via 911.

The first calls reported that there was a bomb at the school, and the last call reported that there was going to be a shooting on campus.

Before these calls came in, parents were already preparing for dismissal as parents were waiting to pick up their children and buses had arrived.

School security officers were notified of these threats and additional officers came to the school to assist.

Officials worked with Capital School District staff and a decision was made to dismiss students on time, with officers providing additional security.

After all staff and students had left, police, along with dog teams, conducted a thorough search and after a search lasting about two hours, the school was found to be safe.

The 13-year-old was handed over to a guardian after being charged with terrorist threats and malicious interference with emergency services.

Immediate attempts to reach the Capital School District for comment were unsuccessful.
