Rain showers until Saturday morning

Marine clouds will continue to pour into the valleys each morning through Saturday as a storm system passes over Southern California. It will be overcast, but there is a slight chance of heavy fog and drizzle.

There is a greater chance of rain tonight through Friday morning, with precipitation amounts ranging from a few hundredths to a tenth of an inch.

In addition, temperatures will continue to be 5 to nearly 20 degrees below average. Winds will increase in the mountains and deserts, with westerly winds of 15 to 40 mph each afternoon and evening through Friday.

Saturday is our transition day. Morning clouds will give way to sunshine in the afternoon and temperatures will rise by 5 to almost 15 degrees. Temperatures will continue to rise through Monday and highs will be several degrees above average.

Monday and Tuesday will be the warmest days, with highs around 27 degrees on the coast, 32 degrees inland, 27 degrees in the mountains and just over 38 degrees in the deserts.

Ironically, the last days of summer will be cooler than the first days of fall, as the autumnal equinox is at 5:43 a.m. on Sunday.
