Two young people arrested for threatening a school in Meriden

MERIDEN, CT (WFSB) – Two juvenile suspects were arrested in connection with an investigation into threatening behavior at a Meriden school.

According to Meriden police, a third juvenile has been identified.

Police said they were investigating several possible threats on Thursday.

Two of these incidents were reported to them by Meriden school administrators and both originated from social media, including Facebook and Snapchat.

“One of these investigations would result in the arrest of two Meriden juveniles,” said Meriden Police Lt. Darrin McKay. “The other investigation would result in our identification of another Meriden juvenile. This investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by members of our Criminal Investigation Division.”

Both investigations were based on the fact that juveniles had reposted one of numerous social media posts that were circulating on numerous social media platforms across the state.

“This has been happening across the state over the last few weeks, and in fact, it has been happening in numerous other states across the country,” McKay stressed.

Both investigations were conducted expeditiously and police have been in contact with Meriden Superintendent Mark Benigni.

Police said Benigni was informed about both investigations and kept updated on their progress.

The Superintendent has sent a notification to parents and staff of Meriden Public Schools.

Meriden police said they take all threats of violence at schools seriously.

“Every threat is thoroughly and expeditiously investigated to determine its credibility and the perpetrators are arrested,” McKay said.
