Two children arrested after investigation into threats at Meriden school – NBC Connecticut

Meriden police have arrested two children in connection with an investigation into threats at school, and another case is currently under investigation.

On Thursday, Meriden police investigated two separate cases of possible threats against the school posted via Facebook and Snapchat after being notified by Meriden school administrators. Police said they arrested two Meriden minors.

During the other investigation, police identified another child from Meriden and the Criminal Investigation Division is continuing its investigation.

Police said both investigations resulted from children reposting “one of numerous social media posts that were circulating on numerous social media platforms throughout the state of Connecticut.”

They said this has happened across the state, as well as in several other states across the country, in recent weeks and that Meriden police take all threats of violence at schools seriously and will investigate each threat.

Meriden School Superintendent Mark Benigni has sent the following message to parents and staff at all Meriden public schools:

“I am sorry to receive a message so late this evening. We are working closely with the Meriden Police Department as they continue to investigate online threats to our middle schools.

“These online threats have been occurring across the state and the country, and people seem to be sharing them. These matters are taken very seriously, and sharing threats will result in serious consequences. Meriden Police have made two arrests and will be sending security officers or patrol officers to our middle schools tomorrow to take precautionary measures.

“Thank you for your support.”
