Two dead in bus crash involving college band

PIKE COUNTY, Mississippi (WLOX/Gray News) – Two people are dead in a bus crash involving a Mississippi college band.

According to Mississippi Highway Control, a bus carrying Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College's Band of Gold was involved in an accident on Highway 98 in Pike County Thursday evening.

The bus was en route to Summit, Mississippi, for the Thursday night football game between Mississippi Gulf Coast and Southwest Mississippi Community College.

According to a statement from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, no students were injured in the accident.

Officials say the two dead people were in another vehicle involved in the accident. Their identities are not being released until next of kin are notified.

The cause of the crash is currently unknown.
