Cat missing in Yellowstone travels 800 miles back home

How the missing cat made it from Wyoming to California or even found the right way home remains a mystery.

WASHINGTON – A California couple has found their cat who went missing in Yellowstone and somehow managed to make it nearly 1,000 miles home.

Benny and Susanne Anguiano told KSBW that one of their cats, Rayne Beau, ran frightened into the trees during a June camping trip in Yellowstone National Park. They spent the rest of the trip trying to find him, but eventually had to head home, fearing they would never see their cat again.

But two months later, the Salinas couple received a shocking call. Rayne Beau had been found and was at the Placer SPCA in Roseville, California, about 200 miles from their home and more than 800 miles from where he was lost in Yellowstone.

Susanne Anguiano told USA TODAY she was skeptical it was a possible scam until her husband and daughter were also contacted. At that point, they asked for a photo to be sent to them and received a photo about 20 minutes later confirming it was their missing cat, the couple told the news outlet.

They told KSBW they also received a message from Pet Watch confirming the cat's microchip ID and location. They were told a woman in the area spotted the cat alone on the street and dropped it off at the shelter after realizing it was someone's pet.

Although they still have no idea how Rayne Beau made it from Wyoming to California or even which direction she's heading home, the cat was “really exhausted” when they were reunited, Susanne Anguiano told KSBW.

The couple hopes someone will see their story and recognize Rayne Beau so they can find out more after his incredible journey home.
