Alyssa Milano wows in a bodysuit and sheer tights in her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in Chicago

Alyssa Milano wowed in a bodysuit and sheer tights on Monday night as she made her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in Chicago at the Ambassador Theater in New York.

The 51-year-old American actress looked amazing as she portrayed Roxie with a short, wavy brown wig, red lipstick and silver dancing shoes.

Alyssa, best known for her leading roles in “Charmed” and “Melrose Place,” beamed as she held a large bouquet of roses in her hands.

Accompanying her on stage was Kimberly Marable, who plays Velma Kelly, and she had an identical bouquet of flowers.

Although Alyssa began her career in theater, she made her Broadway debut on Monday, playing her first roles off-Broadway.

In August, it was announced that Alyssa would star in the second Broadway revival of Chicago, which premiered in 1975.

In a statement, she said: “I couldn't be more excited to return to my roots in musical theatre. When I was 8 years old and first joined the national touring company for Annie, I never imagined that a career spanning over 40 years would lie ahead of me.

“Finally making my Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in the cult musical Chicago and standing on the shoulders of such an honorable family is everything a little girl who loves to sing, dance and make people smile could have ever dreamed of. I can't wait to get on stage.”

Alyssa told the New York Theatre Guide, “My interpretation of Roxie is based on two lines that she has… One is, 'I'm older than I ever wanted to be,' and the other is, 'Some men are like mirrors, and when I look at Amos, I'm still a child.' Those two things told me everything I really needed to know going into it.

“She had a difficult childhood; maybe her development is a little stunted. Part of her still wants to be accepted as a child and feel safe. The other part is that she's this old chick whose opportunity has passed her by, or so she thinks.

“That's my approach: I try to combine this youthful playfulness with a certain seriousness and darkness – because after all, it kills someone.”

The classic musical by John Kander, Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse follows murderers Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly as they vie for the public's sympathy and the vows of lawyer Billy Flynn to bring them fame – and acquittal.

Chicago has won six Tony Awards, two Laurence Olivier Awards and a Grammy for Best Musical Album.

The current revival in 1996 is considered the longest-running musical revival and the longest-running American musical in Broadway history.

“Chicago” is also the second longest-running Broadway show in history; only “The Phantom of the Opera” is better than “The Phantom of the Opera,” which ended in April 2023.

With the end of The Phantom of the Opera, Chicago is currently the longest-running show on Broadway.

“Chicago” (remake from 1996) will have been running for 29 years in November, while “The Phantom of the Opera” will have been running for 35 years.

Previous Roxie Harts include Pamela Anderson, Melanie Griffith, Bonnie Langford, Brandy, Brooke Shields, Denise Van Outen and Rita Wilson.

Velma Kelly was portrayed by Jasmine Guy from “A Different World” and Billy Flynn was portrayed by Usher, Maxwell Caufield, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Billy Ray Cyrus.

“Chicago” was made into a film in 2002 – with Renée Zellweger as Roxie, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Velma and Richard Gere as Billy – and won the Oscar for Best Picture.

Alyssa takes over the role of Ariana Madix and will be seen as Roxie until November 10th.
