Shelter at Belgrade High School lifted after toy gun incident | Billings News

BELGRADE, Mont. – On Sept. 19, Belgrade High School went under in the shelters around 1:10 p.m.

The school district informed the public via Facebook and said that students were in classrooms and receiving instruction as usual.

Since the original release, the school district has posted another update on social media.

According to the Belgrade School District, a staff member saw a student in a vehicle in the high school parking lot that appeared to have a weapon. They immediately reported the incident to building and district administration, as well as police authorities.

At this time, a curfew was imposed at the school.

The students in question were searched and the weapon allegedly seen was a novelty toy. Belgrade police confirmed this. The shelter was lifted at the end of the 5th period at the high school.

We thank our staff and Belgrade Police for their quick action to identify the perceived threat and take appropriate action. Building staff were able to safely escort our student athletes out of the building as planned. We understand that incidents like this cause great concern among students and parents. We thank everyone who remained calm while the incident was investigated,” the district said in a social media post.
