Fatal car accident claims one life | Crime/Police

One person was killed in a serious traffic accident between a motorcycle and a truck at the intersection of University Avenue and Simcoe Street on Thursday morning.

The driver of the motorcycle, Karson Estilette, 18, died Friday from injuries sustained in the crash, Laffayette police said. Estilette was initially taken to a hospital and was in critical condition.

Lafayette Police Department traffic investigators determined that the truck was traveling east in the inside lane in the area of ​​the 1700 block of West University Avenue while the motorcycle was traveling west in the outside lane.

According to LPD, observation on scene revealed that the accident occurred around 9:30 a.m. when the truck attempted to turn left onto West Simcoe Street.

The truck driver's breath sample showed no traces of alcohol. The truck driver was reported for failing to yield the right of way when turning left.
