Las Olas Boulevard near A1A reopened after fatal crash – NBC 6 South Florida

A cyclist was hit and killed by a tanker truck in Fort Lauderdale on Friday morning.

Video from Chopper 6 showed a body covered with a tarp on the road along Las Olas Boulevard near A1A.

Surveillance video from a nearby business shows a man riding parallel to the tanker truck on AIA just before the truck turns and collides with the cyclist. A man who witnessed the crash said the man killed appeared to have been riding a carbon fiber bicycle.

The witness said the cyclist crashed into the trunk and was dragged about 15 meters.

The witness added that he had worked as a rideshare driver in the area for two years and had safety concerns about that particular intersection.

“That turn at Las Olas Boulevard and A1A scared me so much because we were all trying to get somewhere,” the witness explained.

The accident caused traffic delays in the area and the eastbound lanes of East Las Olas Boulevard were closed at the bridge for some time.

The roads were later reopened.
