Ohio State Highway Patrol investigates chase that ended in fatal crash

CECIL, Ohio (WPTA) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol Van Wert Post is investigating an overnight car crash that killed a 58-year-old Ohio man Friday.

According to police, Michael Dean Geiger of Bryan, Ohio, was fleeing from Paulding County Sheriff's Office officers northbound on South Main Street in Cecil around 3 a.m. He veered off the left side of the road and oversteered, causing his vehicle to roll over.

Geiger was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the car. His death was pronounced at the scene of the accident.

The Van Wert Post was assisted on scene by the Paulding County Sheriff's Office, Crane Township/Cecil Fire Department, Paulding County Coroner's Office and Hague's Towing & Repair.

The crash remains under investigation.
