Yankees DFA RHP Ron Marinaccio, optioned RHP Cody Poteet to Triple-A

The Yankees have reinstated the right-hander Cody Poteet from the 60-day injured list and sent him to Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

To make room in the 40-man squad, the right-hander Ron Marinaccio – who was sent to Triple-A on September 6 – was designated for assignment.

Marinaccio, who is in his third year with the major league club after being drafted in the 19th round in 2017, appeared in 16 games for the Yanks this season. He pitched 23.1 innings as a relief pitcher with a 3.86 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. The 29-year-old allowed 11 runs (10 earned runs) on 18 hits and 10 walks with 25 strikeouts.

Poteet landed on the injured list in early June with a strained right triceps and had been rebuilding in the minor leagues since late August. After completing his rehab, he had to be reinstated to the 40-man roster, which caused Marinaccio to fall into the numbers crunch.

In four starts for the Yanks this year, the 29-year-old Poteet posted a 2.14 ERA in 21 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on 15 hits, seven walks and 13 strikeouts.

During his six rehab appearances in Double-A and Triple-A, he posted a 2.29 ERA with 22 strikeouts and five walks in 19.2 innings.
