Man charged with sexual assault in Weehawken


WEEHAWKEN, NJ – The Hudson County District Attorney’s Office has filed charges against a 27-year-old man for a sexual assault that occurred Tuesday in Weehawken.

At approximately 2:00 a.m., Weehawken Police responded to a 911 call from a Port Imperial apartment. Officers found a woman reporting physical and sexual violence by a man in his apartment. The suspect, identified as Dennis Hackett, was arrested by police.

Hackett is facing multiple charges from the Special Victims Unit, including sexual assault under NJSA 2C:14-2c(1), criminal sexual contact under NJSA 2C:14-3b, and simple assault under NJSA 2C:12-1a(3). In addition, the Weehawken Police Department has charged Hackett with aggravated battery on a police officer, throwing bodily fluids at a police officer, resisting arrest, and false imprisonment.

  • Ocean City Beaches Reopen After Medical Waste Cleanup

    Ocean City, MD – Ocean City Life Saving Department has confirmed that the ocean is now safe for swimming and surfing after a thorough cleanup.

    Ocean City Emergency Services officials, in conjunction with the Worcester County Health Department and Environmental Programs, have conducted extensive water testing. Results show that water quality has returned to normal after several days of beach cleanups and multiple high tides.

    Although the source of the trash is still unidentified, Ocean City Emergency Services will continue to work with authorities from Maryland, Delaware and Virginia to investigate the matter. Joe Theobald, director of Ocean City Emergency Services, assured the public that safety measures will be in place when the ocean reopens.

    Theobald stressed that swimmers should only enter the water when lifeguards are on duty. He also thanked the community for their cooperation and understanding during the clean-up operations.

    Additionally, Ocean City Police are urging residents and visitors to watch a related video on their Facebook page for more information. Over the next few days, beachgoers are advised to exercise extra caution, especially when swimming in patrolled areas when lifeguards are present.
