Cal Fire employee accused of setting five fires in Northern California

A California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection employee has been accused of setting a series of small fires in Sonoma County this summer.

Cal Fire officials arrested Robert Hernandez, 38, of Healdsburg on suspicion of arson Friday morning, the state agency said.

Hernandez is a Cal Fire technician and is suspected of setting five fires in August and September in the Geyserville, Healdsburg and Windsor areas, investigators said. All five fires combined burned less than two acres of forest land.

Investigators said Hernandez set the fires while off duty. The press release did not mention how the fires were set or how investigators became suspicious of Hernandez.
