Two injured when small plane crashes in park in Shakopee, Minnesota

Two people were injured when a small plane crashed in a park in Shakopee on Friday afternoon.

City officials said the crash occurred around 12:30 p.m. in Scenic Heights Park, and two people who were on board the plane were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. The names of the people on board the plane and their medical conditions were not immediately available.

“Fortunately, the accident occurred far from the playground, fitness area and park facilities,” so no one else was injured, said Amanda McKnight, a Shakopee spokeswoman.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the cause of the crash of the twin-engine Piper PA-44.

The safety agency said in a statement that “preliminary information indicates that the aircraft crashed in a field under unknown circumstances” and that the wreckage will be taken out of the country for further investigation. The FAA said its preliminary report should be available in the next few days.
