Teenager arrested after aggression in traffic

A 17-year-old Buffalo girl was arrested by police after a road rage incident south of Humboldt in which a gun was allegedly pointed at the occupants of another vehicle.

Just before 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17, two people from Chanute reported to Humboldt police that they were traveling on Old US Highway 169 to a gym in Humboldt. A Jeep Liberty, reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed, passed them and repeatedly braked in front of them. The vehicles passed each other a few times before a gun was pointed at the Chanute residents as they crossed the bridge near the Monarch Cement plant.

The Jeep and its two juvenile occupants were found by Iola Police at Pete's Supermarket on Iola's east side and detained until an officer arrived. After speaking with the driver, a 17-year-old female, a .45 caliber handgun matching the description provided by the reporting person was removed from the vehicle. Bottles of alcohol, nicotine and THC vaporizers, and items believed to be narcotics and drug paraphernalia were found and seized from the vehicle. The gun was believed to belong to the girl's father, who kept it in an unlocked safe.

The juvenile driver was arrested and taken to the Girard Juvenile Detention Center. The 15-year-old passenger in the vehicle was released to a parent.

The following charges will be forwarded to the Allen County District Attorney for review: Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Disturbing the Peace, Illegal Possession of a Weapon, Drug Possession, THC Possession, Alcohol Possession by a Minor, Tobacco/Nicotine Possession by a Minor, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
