Unlicensed Joliet man kicks cops during drunk driving arrest: JPD

JOLIET — A 40-year-old Joliet man was arrested by Joliet police this week after an altercation broke out during a traffic stop on busy Collins Street. Officers took Francisco Alvizo was taken into custody and issued a court summons. He was charged with driving while under the influence of drugs, aggravated resisting an officer, three counts of obstructing an officer and three additional counts of resisting an officer.

Joliet Police spokesman Dwayne English said the following events led to Alvizo's arrest Monday evening:

At 7:25 p.m., officers stopped a van in the 300 block of Collins Street for a turn signal violation. At the beginning of the traffic stop, Alvizo left the driver's seat of the vehicle and began to walk away, ignoring the officer's request to stop.

Alvizo continued to walk away from the officer and then sat down on the sidewalk.

The officer noticed that Alvizo appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance and attempted to arrest him. Alvizo then broke free and stood up.

Joliet officers then took Alvizo to the ground and he continued to resist being handcuffed. Officers eventually handcuffed Alvizo and he continued to kick the officers.

During a search of the van, officers found a pipe commonly used for smoking narcotics. Alvizo also received citations for failure to use a turn signal, driving without a valid license and operating an uninsured vehicle. The van was towed from the scene.
