Washington, D.C. Supreme Court Judge Maribeth Raffinan briefed a defendant in a double murder case on the charges and set a trial date for 2026 at a hearing on September 20.

Kevin Foster, 20, is charged with six counts of first-degree premeditated murder, second-degree armed murder, three counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime and assault with intent to kill during an armed act. The charges relate to his alleged involvement in the March 7, 2023, shooting in the 2700 block of Bruce Place, SE, that left both Dana Faulkner, 23, and Abdul Fuller, 15, dead and another person injured.

Foster's defence lawyer Matthew Davies said the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges and requested release, a request that prosecutors rejected because they believe he is a danger to society.

Judge Raffinan refused to grant release because she is convinced that Foster poses a danger to society and the arguments put forward by the defense do not provide sufficient security for Foster's safe release.

The hearing date was set for March 23, 2026.

The parties are expected to meet again on December 11.
