Suspect taken into custody after hours-long SWAT standoff in southeast Austin

A suspect is now in custody after an hours-long SWAT team standoff in southeast Austin.

Austin police said officers with the Fugitive Offender Apprehension Task Force attempted to execute an arrest warrant on a suspect who had multiple warrants for serious crimes at an apartment complex in the 2200 block of Cromwell Circle around 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20.

When the officers attempted to execute the arrest warrant, they encountered resistance from the suspect. This led to the deployment of the special operations unit.

The SWAT team attempted to remove the suspect from the apartment, but he remained uncooperative. The SWAT team then deployed a robot to distribute chemical irritants inside.

The suspect then came out and was arrested.

There is no danger to the population.
