Hannibal attorney arrested Wednesday in Shelby County, Friday morning at Marion County Courthouse – Muddy River News

HANNIBAL, Missouri – A Hannibal attorney was arrested twice this week. The second arrest occurred Friday morning at the Marion County Courthouse while he was in the middle of a hearing.

Tyler White, 33, was representing clients in traffic cases in Marion County Associate Circuit Court before Judge Brad Funk when he was led out of a second-floor courtroom and escorted out of the courthouse by two Missouri State Highway Patrol officers. About 30 people waiting for their cases to be heard lined up outside the courtroom and watched as White was escorted down the stairs.

Sergeant Justin Dunn of the Missouri State Highway Patrol said White is being held in the Shelby County Jail in Shelbina for 24 hours pending investigation. White is suspected of being the driver of a vehicle in a crash in Shelby County. Dunn said the investigation began on Sept. 13.

Attempts to obtain information from the Marion County District Attorney's Office were unsuccessful Friday morning.

White was also arrested in Shelby County on Wednesday.

White is representing Robert S. Neiner of Perry in a drunken driving case that went up in Monroe City Municipal Court in January. A document filed Monday by Judge Talley Smith in Monroe County District Court said White was present at a preliminary hearing on Sept. 10 but has not yet filed any pretrial motions.

Another hearing was scheduled for September 13, but White failed to appear. A show-cause hearing — an opportunity to explain to a judge why a person is not complying with orders — was scheduled for September 16, but White failed to appear for that hearing, either.

Smith then filed a seizure order with any law enforcement agency in Missouri, which stated, “You are hereby requested to collect the body of Tyler White… if he is found in your county, and to safely store him so that he may be presented before the Honorable Judge Smith in the District Court of Monroe County on September 24th at 1:30 p.m…. to show why he should not be held in contempt of court for failing to appear as ordered by the Court.”

Bail was set at $50,000.

A representative from the Monroe County Sheriff's Department confirmed Friday that White was taken into custody on a warrant by Shelby County Sheriff's Department officers on Wednesday during Law Day at the Shelby County Courthouse in Shelbyville. Monroe County officers later transported White to the Monroe County Courthouse. After his arrest, White paid his bail and was released.
