Verdict passed against man who killed his wife eight years ago

It's a trial that has taken eight years. On Monday, John Blauvelt, charged with the murder of his wife, Cati Blauvent, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, stood before a Greenville County judge and jury. The trial began on Monday, September 16. In pre-trial motions, the state and defense argued over whether John's domestic violence charges and criminal history should be included in the trial's arguments. The state mentioned that John had a “to-do” list on his refrigerator that included the item “get rid of Cati.” They claimed he approached several people and offered them money to kill Cati. The defense denied those claims. Both sides said John and Cati separated four days before Cati was found stabbed to death in an abandoned Simpsonville home in October 2016. John Blauvelt was arrested in October 2022. The court listened to audio recordings of state marshals interviewing John's most recent girlfriend, a woman he met while on the run in Oregon. They lived together for nearly six years, with the woman claiming he gave her a different name. On Friday, Sept. 20, the verdict was handed down and Blauvelt was found guilty of both murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Blauvelt was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, officials said.
