Illinois ends Nebraska's unbeaten start in overtime

Illinois ended Nebraska's undefeated start in the Huskers' first-ever home game Friday night.NU (3-1, 0-1 Big Ten) lost 31-24 to the Fighting Illini (4-0, 1-0) at Memorial Stadium on Friday night. Neyor attempted another touchdown on a pass from Raiola, giving Nebraska another six points. Illinois tried to contest the touchdown, but the referees ruled it valid. Hohl followed with a field goal, increasing the Huskers' lead to 17-10 as the teams went to the locker rooms. Illinois tied the score with 1:55 left in the third quarter. Raiola threw to Janiran Bonner for a one-yard touchdown that gave Nebraska a 24-17 lead. The Fighting Illini scored a 6-yard touchdown to tie the score again at 24-24. Illinois fumbled and the Huskers rushed to recover the ball with the score tied at 8:25 in the fourth quarter. And then it was into overtime. The Huskers won the coin toss and began the overtime period on defense. Illinois scored shortly after overtime began to take a 31-24 lead. Nebraska could not come back after that, losing to Illinois 31-24. The Huskers celebrated their 400th consecutive sellout at Memorial Stadium, and of course this streak would not have been possible without the fans.
