Kawasaki Ninja 1100 SX SE confirmed in documents

Kawasaki is expected to unveil a larger displacement version of its Ninja 1000 SX sport tourer this winter, as type approval documents from Austria indicate that a new 1100 cc version is on the way.

The new bike is set to be ready for the 2025 season, so more details about the model are expected to be announced this winter – meaning we might see it at EICMA.

The new machine, referred to in the documents as the Ninja 1100 SX SE, is said to be very similar to the existing Ninja SX, with the changes for the upcoming model year focusing solely on the bike's engine. German magazine Motorrad has reported on the documents and even managed to get hold of some alleged spy photos of the new machine. Spoiler alert: it looks exactly like the existing model!

More interesting than the design, however, is how Motorrad calculated how Kawasaki stretched the inline-four engine. Rather than increasing the unit's stroke, which can be complicated and expensive, Motorrad reports that the Motorcycle's bore could be increased by 1.7mm, bringing the total displacement to the 1,099cc stated in the documents.

Motorcycle has also attempted to calculate the potential power output of the upcoming machine, and if their numbers are correct, it could produce over 150 hp – more than the current bike's 142 hp. It's also possible that the SE part of the new bike's name indicates the inclusion of semi-active suspension, along the lines of the Versys 1000 SE and H2 SX SE, both of which feature the Showa-developed KECS (Kawasaki Electronic Controlled Suspension). For more information on this matter, we'll have to wait for the bike's official announcement, which shouldn't be long in coming.
