Identities of two fatalities in Pike County community college bus crash revealed

PIKE COUNTY, Mississippi (WLBT) – The identities of the two people killed in a crash involving a community college school bus in Pike County have been released.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the accident Thursday evening on Highway 98 involved a 1997 Ford Ranger and a 2011 MCI bus transporting the Mississippi Gulf Coast Band of Gold.

The bus was on its way to Summit for a football game between Southwest Mississippi Community College and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

On Friday morning, the Mississippi Highway Patrol identified the two as 51-year-old Gregory Young of McComb and 46-year-old Brandy Simmons of Magnolia.

According to MHP, Young, the driver of the Ford Ranger, was traveling north at the intersection of Pike 93 and Highway 98 when the vehicle collided with the bus driven by 43-year-old Garry Grant of Ocean Springs, who was traveling west.

Young and Simmons were pronounced dead at the scene.
