Cool, wet days ahead; risk of coastal flooding

WITH A LOT OF RAIN OFF THE COAST. THIS IS TRYING TO MOVE IN BUT THE HIGH PRESSURE TO THE NORTH IS PREVENTING IT. WE'VE HAD SOME HEAVY RAIN ON BOTH ISLANDS NOW. THE RAIN, THE MOST CONSTANT. IF YOU LOOK AT THE OUTER CAPE. BUT BOY, ONCE YOU CROSS THE CHANNEL, IT'S JUST SOME SHOWERS WE'RE TALKING ABOUT. AND THIS WHOLE SYSTEM IS GOING TO SIT DOWN AND SPIN HERE AND WHAT IT'S DOING IS IT'S KEEPING A NORTHEAST CURRENT IN HERE. SO THE NORTHEAST WIND IS GOING TO BUILD UP MORE AND MORE. AND OF COURSE THAT MEANS THE OCEAN WILL BE TURNED UP AS WELL. SO WE'RE GOING TO SEE A LOT OF WAVE ACTION OUT THERE. SO BEWARE, IT'S GOING TO BE A BIT CHOPPY ON THE COAST. TOMORROW MORNING YOU'LL SEE THE RAIN. THERE'S SOME SPOKEN SHOWERS, MAINLY DIRECTLY ON THE COAST. THEY'LL TRY TO MOVE THROUGH THROUGHOUT THE DAY AND EVEN ON SATURDAY MORNING THEY COULD MOVE THROUGH TO 495 GRAMMES. THAT'S OUR BEST CHANCE FOR RAIN. AND THEN IT'LL JUST SLOWLY DISAPPEAR AND MOVE ON FROM HERE. SO ON SUNDAY WE'RE GOING TO PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES. AS FOR ADDITIONAL RAIN, MAYBE 2/10 IN BOSTON, MAYBE CLOSER TO A HALF TO AN INCH OF RAIN, OF COURSE IF YOU LOOK DOWN TO THE CAPE, THEY'VE ALREADY GET ALMOST TWO INCHES THERE. THAT'S WHY IT'S NOW BLOWING A NORTHEAST WIND. WE'RE GOING TO SEE SOME BIG BREAKING WAVES, WHICH MEANS THERE'S LIKELY TO BE SOME MINOR FLOODING ON THE COAST, NOT JUST TOMORROW, BUT ON SATURDAY AS WELL. SO IF YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT GOING TO THE BEACH, KEEP IN MIND THE WAVES WILL BE BETWEEN 9 AND 11 FEET HIGH OVER THE WEEKEND. THAT'S SOME PRETTY GOOD WAVE ACTION. We're talking about the risk of rip currents out there, high surf everywhere. My surfing buddies are all heading out because it's relatively warm this time of year. They're used to it. If you're not used to it, you might want to stay away from the coast because there's going to be some minor flooding on some of the roads there. We've got several high tides to look at, one of them tomorrow afternoon. The one that really worries me more is Saturday afternoon's at 217. ASTRONOMICALLY IT'S ALREADY HIGH. WE'VE STILL HAVE A LITTLE TIME FOR THE WIND TO BUILD UP THE WAVES AND SO I WOULD EXPECT SOME MINOR FLOODING ON THE COAST WHEN WE LOOK AT THE HIGH TIDE SATURDAY AFTERNOON. THOSE ARE THE WINDS WE'RE TALKING ABOUT. THEY'RE GONNA GET REALLY STRONG TOMORROW NIGHT, 3035 mph winds. THEY'RE STAYING THAT UNTIL SATURDAY, AND NOTE, THE DIRECTION IS STAYING OUT OF THE NORTHEAST, SO THE WAVES WILL CONTINUE TO BUILD THERE. SOME SPOTS OF RAIN LIKELY TONIGHT OVER THE SOUTHEAST OF THE STATE. SOME FOG TOO MUCH TONIGHT. SO TOMORROW IS LIKE TODAY. Kind of damp, cool weather out there with some scattered showers. Same Saturday, especially in the first half of the day. And then it'll clear up Sunday. Partly cloudy skies, but still windy. And then it'll clear up much better Monday or Tuesday of next week. Temperatures around 60 degrees. Sunshine out there. Good chance we'll see a few showers by Wednesday or Thursday of next week. And this time it looks like they'll be a little more widespread than they were then.

A weather system that has stalled offshore is expected to bring unsettled weather to coastal areas over the next few days, with heavy rain, strong winds and the possibility of minor flooding along the coast.
