8-year-old drives to Target in her mom's SUV: Watch the dashcam video

An 8-year-old girl returned home safely after taking her mother's car and driving it to a nearby Target in Ohio, police said Sunday. Her trip to the store was captured on dashboard camera footage.

The girl, whose identity has not yet been released, was enjoying a Frappuccino when police discovered her, Bedford police said in a Facebook post.

“I finally found a woman who is in a greater hurry to shop at Target than my wife,” Bedford police wrote in a Facebook post. “Eight years in a greater hurry. That's right, an eight-year-old took mom's car this morning and drove to Target in Bainbridge to shop.”

Police tracked down the 8-year-old after family members reported her and her mother's 2020 Nissan Rogue missing just before 9 a.m. Sunday, the Bedford police report states. Ring camera footage captured by the neighbor's security camera showed the girl “getting into the SUV and driving away” around 7 a.m. with “no one present but herself,” the police report states. Police also received a call about a young child driving a vehicle matching the description.
