Vehicle split in half, driver dies in crash near busy Gilbert shopping center

GILBERT, AZ (AZFamily) — One person was killed in an accident late Friday afternoon in Gilbert that split a vehicle in half.

Police and firefighters responded to SanTan Village Parkway near Coronado Road around 3:15 p.m. Friday.

A video from Arizona Family News Chopper shows a vehicle with its rear end severed on a sidewalk near the SanTan Village shopping center.

Police said the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved and no one else was injured.

The northbound lanes of SanTan Village Parkway are closed between Coronado and Ray Road as police begin their investigation.

The police have not yet released any further details.
