Michael Eric Dyson criticises MP Nancy Mace’s flirting allegations

Dr. Michael Eric Dyson is not here to address allegations by Republican Representative Nancy Mace that he flirted with her.

The allegations follow an argument in which Dyson asked Mace how to pronounce Kamala Harris' name. After being corrected on the spelling of the Democratic presidential candidate's name, Mace stated during a panel discussion on CNN that she would pronounce Harris' name “however I want.”

At Thursday's congressional hearing, the South Carolina congresswoman shared private messages from CNN guest Michael Eric Dyson.

In a video clip, Mace is seen holding up a screenshot of text messages allegedly claiming Dyson called her “gorgeous” during the exchange. “Then the guy says I'm gorgeous in all these photos. I don't think he gets as annoyed as someone pronouncing Kamala. And if we're going to have that standard, we have to hold it to both sides, not just one or one or the other.”

Dyson fired back at her screenshots, calling them lies and an attempt to smear his name.

“The ridiculous lies Nancy Mace tells to smear my name because she's angry she was investigated for her insensitive disrespect of @VP, I had nothing in mind other than being nice. And her white women's tears and mendacity all serve lies and distortions. I was wrong about one thing: She IS a bigot and racist,” Dyson tweeted Thursday night.

Dyson also shared on Instagram that he was joking about how united they looked in the photos they took after the CNN interview.

“I'm not flirting with Nancy Mace. This is a woman trying to take advantage of a situation and pretend that I'm hitting on her,” Dyson said. “What you're trying to do is create malice and vitriol because you're so bitter about getting your ass spanked that night because I told you then that what you were doing was wrong,” he said of Mace.

According to NewsOne, Dyson was encouraged to take the photo by Abby Philip. “Abby Philip, the host of the show, suggested we take photos,” he said, then explained that “that's what it was about – two bipolar opposites: Michael Eric Dyson on one side, Nancy Mace on the other.”

Dyson said his line, “Don't tell anyone we look good together,” implied that they were “bipolar opposites” and that the kissy face emoji was accompanied by a laughing emoji, suggesting he was joking.

“And she said, 'Ha ha ha ha ha,' and I said, 'Well, your beauty makes the photo, so that's something,'” Dyson said, claiming he was “just trying to be nice to her” to prove “that we can be relatively nice to each other.”
