Man charged with sexual assault at gas station, released on probation for 1988 sex crime

A West Michigan man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a gas station parking lot was on parole at the same time for a sexual assault charge in Ottawa County, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.

Greg Joseph DuJardine, 60, of Muskegon, allegedly followed a woman on Sept. 8 as she drove south on U.S. 31 from Grand Haven.

He then allegedly hit the woman's Jeep near US-31 and Lake Michigan Drive and continued to follow her until she stopped at a gas station near US-31 and Stanton Street because he thought DuJardine was going to report the accident to the police.

However, when the two drivers got out of their cars, DuJardine allegedly physically assaulted the woman and touched her inappropriately, officials said.

The woman was able to fend off the 60-year-old and free herself to call 911. According to the sheriff's office, she only suffered minor injuries.

DuJardine then fled before officers arrived, but was arrested a day later, on September 9, in Muskegon.

The 60-year-old was initially incarcerated in Muskegon County for violating his probation and is now on probation in Ottawa County for a 1988 sexual abuse charge, officials said.

Since his arrest, detectives have continued to investigate the case and presented it to the Ottawa County District Attorney's Office, which filed charges on Thursday.

According to the sheriff's office, DuJardine was charged Friday with second-degree sexual abuse and habitual criminal mischief (fourth offense notice).

His bail was set at $500,000 cash/surety and he remains in the Ottawa County Jail.
