Watercraft accident on Fox River near Cary leaves serious injuries – Shaw Local

A person who crashed his watercraft on the Fox River near Cary on Friday afternoon was flown out by helicopter with serious injuries.

The Cary Fire Protection District responded to the water rescue near the 2500 block of Grove Lane just before 4:10 p.m. The watercraft collided with a residential boat dock and initial reports indicated a man was unconscious in the water, Alex Vucha, communications specialist for the Cary Fire Protection District, said in a news release.

When paramedics arrived, they found the man near the shore and he had regained consciousness, Vucha said. The injured person was taken by ambulance to the helipad at Mercyhealth Crystal Lake Hospital and then flown by helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Just minutes earlier, at 4 p.m., firefighters responded to a house fire in the 6000 block of Lakeview Lane. The fire was contained to the back patio of the home and was quickly extinguished. No one was injured in the fire and the home remains habitable, Vucha said.

“We pride ourselves on the professionalism and ability of our members to respond quickly to multiple incidents occurring simultaneously,” said Vucha.

The fire remains under investigation by the Cary Fire Protection District. The McHenry County Sheriff's Marine Unit is investigating the watercraft accident, Vucha said.
