Teenager arrested in fraud case, faces charges ⋆ 715Newsroom.com

An 18-year-old from India is being held on half a million dollar bail in Dodge County after attempting to defraud a resident of more than $80,000.

The Dodge County Sheriff's Office says Laxit Devendra Patel is charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering and theft by false representation. The sheriff's office deployed an undercover agent after someone claiming to be from the Federal Trade Commission called a 61-year-old Lowell resident and said he needed to withdraw all his money because his bank accounts and Social Security numbers had been compromised.

The undercover agent wired the money to Patel and the sheriff's office subsequently arrested the suspect.
