After an accident in Merrimack, a man is accused of drug trafficking

MERRIMACK, NH – A two-vehicle crash on Bedford Road in Merrimack resulted in a Merrimack man being arrested by Merrimack Police.

Merrimack firefighters, ambulance crews and police responded to a report of an accident involving injuries on Bedford Road and Daniel Webster Highway at around 7:58 p.m. Thursday.

Police said they arrived at the scene and spoke with Thomas Bemis, 35, of Merrimack, and officers observed “signs of impairment.”

After the officer completed his investigation, which included roadside sobriety tests, Bemis was taken into custody for driving under the influence. During the investigation, officers also discovered a large amount of a controlled drug near the vehicle Bemis was driving.

According to Merrimack police, Bemis is charged with misdemeanor open container, misdemeanor driving under the influence, felony counts of tampering with evidence and possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute.

Bemis was taken to the Merrimack Police Station where his case was processed and he was released on bail.

The police did not provide any information about the injuries of the other driver involved in the accident.

He is scheduled to appear in Merrimack 9th District Court on October 8, 2024 to answer the charges.
