“I have literally just started Thursday Murder Club 5 now,” he told presenter Matt Tebbutt, “by which I mean I wrote 'Thursday Murder Club 5' at the top of the paper, and to be honest, that's half the job!

“About two minutes, because I love these characters so much and I care about them so much and, you know, that's where they come from.

“But the first time, I literally wrote a scene with Ron, the Labour activist, and when I wrote just the first paragraph, I had Pierce Brosnan in my head. And I thought, 'Remember, that's not who he is. He's a person in your head.'

“So after spending the summer being on set, I had to forget that Helen Mirren, Celia Imrie and Pierce Brosnan, you know, [the cast]. I do a little scene where Ron and Ibrahim start the scene talking about who their favorite Bond is. And Ron says, “Oh, my favorite Bond is Pierce Brosnan.”

“And I told Pierce Brosnan about it, and yes, he agreed!”
