Today the probability of rain showers and thunderstorms is back, autumn begins cooler on Sunday

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – It's hard to believe, but the summer season officially ends this weekend as we welcome fall on Sunday. The leaves are already changing colors, but today will be one more warm spell before temperatures start to cool again. Much-needed rain chances are back as well, which is great as Eau Claire's September rainfall total is nearly 1.5 inches below average.

A look at what awaits us this weekend(WEAU)

A cold front will move in from the west today, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms at times throughout the day as sunshine mixes with clouds. Some storms could become strong to severe this afternoon and evening, with the main threat being gusty winds and large hail. Whether you're simply spending time outdoors or attending a local event like Oktoberfest in Chippewa Falls, be sure to keep an eye on the radar. It will feel summery as highs reach 80°F and dew points climb to 59°F, with it being a bit muggy.
